I wanted the bedside tables in my bedroom back. With a 60-inch-wide bed, two table lamps, chargers, books, and the nightly water glass, there was barely a clear patch of wood left to use.

Typical bedside output is around 400 to 800 lumens per fixture. Mine land near the middle because I read in bed, but a shaded linen pendant naturally softens the beam and can handle a little more output without making the room feel clinical.
Keep the Pair Deliberately Balanced
Two pendants do not need to be identical in every measurement, but the visual weight should match. I centered each brass canopy over the nightstand rather than centering it on the mattress, a small decision that makes the setup look intentional from the doorway.
Equal hanging heights deliver the calm, polished look people associate with a good hotel room. For a more relaxed bedroom, I like a difference of only a few inches, paired with matching smoked-glass shades so the variation reads as choice rather than a measuring mistake.
Spend on Material, Skip the Oversized Drama
IKEA is a sensible starting point when you want to test the idea without a major bill. A pair from the IKEA STOCKHOLM lighting range can give a bedroom a sculptural outline, and basic IKEA pendants often begin around $30, depending on the fixture and local pricing.
For a fixture that will anchor the room for years, the typical quality range is about $150 to $450 per pendant. I would put that money toward brass hardware, real glass, or a tightly woven natural fiber shade, then leave the oversized sculptural pieces to rooms with more breathing room.
Protect the Surface Space You Just Won Back
The best part of pendant lights is the cleared nightstand top, so don’t refill it with clutter. On mine, a ceramic tray, one water glass, and a book are enough, with the charging cord routed behind the table instead of looping across the surface.
Give every pendant a dimmer from day one. A dimmable rattan shade can be moody at low light and useful for a late read at higher light, which is far more valuable than a fixture that only looks good in a daytime photo.
Begin by taping an 8- to 12-inch circle and a 24-inch drop beside one nightstand tonight. That low-cost mockup will tell you more than any product photo before you invest in a pair of bedside pendants.
