6 Wall-To-Wall Dresser Layouts That Replace a Bedroom Closet

A bedroom with no closet can still feel orderly, but a roughly 9-foot blank wall has to carry more than a pretty low chest. Two IKEA NORDLI six-drawer units span 94½ inches and cost $699.98 before tax, delivery, and assembly, yet that setup still leaves hanging clothes without a home.

The most useful answer is a hybrid: continuous drawers for folded pieces, plus hanging storage at one or both ends. These layouts show how to balance capacity, cost, and circulation without pretending a low dresser is a complete closet.

Pair Matching Dressers Across One Wall

Start with two matching IKEA NORDLI six-drawer dressers instead of mixing unrelated chests. Each unit measures 47¼ inches wide and 29⅞ inches high, creating a combined run of 94½ inches across a roughly 8- to 9-foot wall.

At $349.99 each, the pair costs $699.98 before tax, delivery, or assembly. This is the cleanest low-storage layout, but it handles folded clothes only, so hanging garments need a second home.

The system uses engineered-panel furniture, which keeps the price accessible and the shape consistent. Leave the area above open for a mirror, shelves, or artwork instead of pushing the entire wall toward floor-to-ceiling storage.

Center Drawers Between Two Tall Wardrobes

For a room with no clothing storage at all, place a 47¼-inch dresser between two 39⅜-inch wardrobe bays. An illustrative 11-foot arrangement uses one IKEA PAX/STORKLINTA bay, one NORDLI dresser, and a second wardrobe, with roughly 6 inches reserved for fillers and fitting tolerance.

Two current wardrobe combinations at $725 each plus one $349.99 dresser total $1,799.99 in furniture. The oak-effect finish reads warmer than plain white, though it is not oak veneer or solid oak.

This is the strongest layout for a bedroom without a closet because it divides the wall by function. Drawers hold folded items in the center while both tall units take shirts, jackets, dresses, and longer pieces.

Run Drawers Into One Hanging End Bay

A smaller wall can use one 39⅜-inch wardrobe at one end and one or two 47¼-inch dresser units beside it. Keep the hanging section near a corner, where a steel hanging rail can work without interrupting the visual rhythm of the drawer run.

One $725 wardrobe and one $349.99 NORDLI unit cost about $1,075 before fitting expenses. Adding a second dresser brings the furniture total to about $1,425, making this asymmetrical hybrid a practical middle ground.

Choose the NORDLI six-drawer unit when folded clothing takes priority, then add hanging capacity before buying another low cabinet. A wall that looks full can still leave the wardrobe problem unsolved.

Stretch a Long Wall With Three Low Units

On a roughly 12-foot wall, three matching six-drawer NORDLI units create about 141¾ inches of continuous storage and 18 drawers. The arrangement suits bedrooms where most clothing is folded and where hanging garments already have another location.

At about $1,050 total, this long dresser wall gives the room a strong horizontal line. The limitation is serious: particleboard drawer furniture cannot replace a wardrobe, so reserve space elsewhere for hanging clothes, coats, and anything that wrinkles easily.

Keep the run low beneath a window only after checking the sill, trim, heat sources, and window operation. A centered installation feels deliberate; a nearly full wall with a random leftover gap looks unfinished.

Use Fillers to Create a Fitted Appearance

Freestanding pieces look more intentional when narrow gaps are handled with end fillers and a coordinated top. A simple filler panel can close uneven spaces while a continuous surface visually links the dressers into one built-in-style wall.

Before cutting or fastening anything, verify the exact US specifications for the IKEA NORDLI frame. The referenced system can include particleboard, fiberboard, acrylic paint, paper foil, and honeycomb-paper construction across different components.

Do not treat a current listing as permission to modify every piece the same way. Measure the actual units, check the wall for studs, and leave access to drawers, outlets, and baseboards.

Protect Doors, Windows, and Walking Space

A wall-to-wall plan fails when the furniture blocks a door swing or makes the bed difficult to reach. Mark the full footprint with painter’s tape, including depth, before ordering, and check every window sill and heat source along the wall.

Keep tall storage away from a window unless the opening, trim, and ventilation remain fully usable. A PAX/STORKLINTA wardrobe is useful at the end of the composition, but its height can dominate a narrow room if the bed faces it closely.

Use the low section for the wall nearest the bed and place taller storage where it has breathing room. That small planning decision often matters more than adding another drawer.

Measure the clear wall, door swing, window trim, and heat sources first, then reserve one end for hanging storage before filling the rest with drawers. That priority keeps the storage wall useful long after the room looks finished.
