World Civil Defence Day

World Civil Protection Day is celebrated every March 1.

This date was chosen for the World Day calendar because it is the anniversary of the entry into force of the ICDO Constitution as an intergovernmental organization, on March 1, 1972.
ICDO

The International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) is an intergovernmental organization whose main objective is to contribute to the establishment by States of measures and organizations to ensure the protection and assistance of populations in the face of natural and man-made disasters.
The objectives

The stated aims of the day are to :

to draw the attention of the general public to the major role played by the fire service in people’s daily lives
raise public awareness of the measures to be adopted in the event of natural disasters.

In fact, it is quite symptomatic that countries such as Haiti and certain African countries are particularly sensitive to the celebration of this day. It provides an opportunity to organize a whole series of events, conferences, debates, exhibitions and even disaster preparedness and rescue exercises.
