It is a 25 cm foam mattress built around a responsive comfort foam Koala calls Kloudcell, with a cover that mixes recycled polyester and TENCEL Lyocell fibers. The headline feature is simple: unzip the cover and flip the internal layer to switch between medium-firm and firm. This review walks through the pricing by size, the trial and warranty terms, the materials, and the sleeper profiles the mattress suits and does not suit.

For the full shortlist this model competes in, see our best innerspring mattresses.

Our pick

Saatva Classicthe innerspring alternative if you want a coil build

365-night home trial

Free white-glove delivery and old-mattress removal

Lifetime warranty

Three comfort levels and two mattress heights to choose from

Check today’s Saatva price →

Who is the Koala Mattress for?

It suits couples who cannot agree on firmness, because one flip of the internal layer moves the mattress between medium-firm and firm without buying a second product. It suits renters and apartment dwellers, because the Single ships in a single box weighing 19.96 kg and the mattress itself runs from 18.57 kg in Single up to 40.34 kg in King. It suits buyers who value recycled and certified materials, with CertiPUR-US certified foam and a cover made with TENCEL Lyocell fibers with climate actions.

It does not suit shoppers who want an innerspring feel, a pillow top, or a trial measured in a full year. Those buyers are better served by a coil mattress with a longer home trial and a lifetime warranty. The Koala Mattress is a foam mattress, and its comfort story is foam comfort and flippable firmness, not coil support or a plush Euro top.

What does the Koala Mattress cost in Australia?

Pricing is straightforward and published per size. At the time of writing, the Single is $712, the King Single is $792, the Double is $920, the Queen is $999.20, and the King is $1,192. The listing shows a regular price of $890 against a sale price of $712 on the Single, a saving of $178. Payment options include Afterpay in four interest-free payments, PayPal Pay in 4, and ZipPay, with the usual eligibility and account fee conditions attached to each.

Size

Dimensions (W x L x H)

Weight

Price (AUD)

Single

92 x 188 x 25 cm

18.57 kg

$712.00

King Single

107 x 203 x 25 cm

23.32 kg

$792.00

Double

138 x 188 x 25 cm

27.86 kg

$920.00

Queen

153 x 203 x 25 cm

33.35 kg

$999.20

King

183 x 203 x 25 cm

40.34 kg

$1,192.00

Every size shares the same 25 cm height, so the profile on the bed frame does not change as you move up the range. Unzip the cover, flip the internal comfort layer, and choose between medium-firm and firm. That is the whole mechanism: no remote, no pump, no separate topper to buy.

The comfort layer itself is Kloudcell, Koala’s responsive comfort foam, described as giving cushioning relief and steady support across the body. The mattress is 25 cm tall in every size, which keeps it compatible with standard sheets and a low bed frame. Because the firmness change happens inside the mattress rather than at the surface, the cover and the base layer stay where they are.

What is the Koala Mattress made of?

The material list is specific. The ticking fabric is 83 percent recycled polyester and 17 percent TENCEL Lyocell fibers with climate actions. The side wall fabric is 65 percent polyester and 35 percent recycled polyester. The anti-slip base fabric is 100 percent polyester with PVC dots, which keeps the mattress from walking across a smooth base. Other fabrics are 100 percent polyester. The foam is CertiPUR-US certified, and the cover is made with TENCEL Lyocell fibers with climate actions.

CertiPUR-US certified foam for the comfort and support layers

Cover with TENCEL Lyocell fibers alongside recycled polyester

Anti-slip base with PVC dots to hold position on the frame

Designed by Koala in Sydney, manufactured in China

On cooling, the honest guidance is simple: this is a foam mattress with a cover engineered around breathable fibers, and Koala markets it as cooler to sleep on. Shoppers who know they sleep hot on foam in general should weigh that against a coil build, where airflow through the spring unit is the structural difference. The TENCEL Lyocell blend in the ticking is the material detail to weigh here.

What are the trial, delivery and warranty terms?

The trial is 120 days. Koala states that if the product does not suit you within that window, you receive a full refund of the purchase price. Delivery on mattresses is free, and Koala offers same day delivery on furniture and mattress orders in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide for in-stock products. Metro customers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane can select premium delivery on select items for an additional cost, which includes assembly and rubbish removal.

The warranty runs up to 10 years, described by Koala as a world class warranty. The Single ships as one box, Box 1, the base layer, at W100 x D40 x H40 cm with a boxed weight of 19.96 kg. Assembly instructions are provided as a PDF, and an assembly video is available on the product page.

Policy

Koala Mattress

Trial length

120 days, full refund of purchase price

Delivery

Free on mattresses; same day available in five cities for in-stock items

Warranty

Up to 10 years

Firmness options

Medium-firm or firm, flipped at home

Height

25 cm across all five sizes

What do the public reviews say?

The Koala Mattress listing carries a rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars from 2,912 reviews. That is a large public sample on the product page itself, and it is the clearest signal of how the mattress lands with Australian buyers at this price. The rating sits next to the 120 day trial and the free delivery promise, so a shopper can read the score, check the trial terms, and decide without leaving the page.

Reviews are worth reading for the details the spec sheet cannot give you, particularly around how the medium-firm and firm settings feel after a few weeks and how the mattress holds up in a Queen used by two people. The 4.8 figure is a rating, not a durability test, so treat it as customer sentiment rather than a lifespan claim.

Who should NOT buy the Koala Mattress?

Skip the Koala Mattress if you want a coil mattress. This is an all-foam build with a foam comfort layer, and no amount of flipping changes that. Skip it if you need a trial longer than 120 days, because the trial window is fixed and a full year of home trial is available elsewhere. Skip it if you want a plush pillow top or a luxury hotel feel, since the surface here is a flat foam comfort layer under a zip cover, not a Euro top. Skip it if you need a mattress over 25 cm tall, as every Koala size is 25 cm. And skip it if you weigh enough that you need a support system engineered for heavier sleepers, because the published specifications cover dimensions, weight and materials rather than a load rating.

How does the Saatva Classic compare?

The Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress with a 3 inch Euro pillow top, a dual coil design using triple tempered recycled carbon steel coils, and three comfort levels: Plush Soft at 3 out of 10, Luxury Firm at 5 to 7 out of 10, and Firm at 8 out of 10. It comes in two heights, 11.5 inches and 14.5 inches, and carries a 365 night home trial, free white glove delivery with in room setup and old mattress removal, and a lifetime warranty. It is CertiPUR-US certified, GREENGUARD Gold certified, and endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association.

Feature

Koala Mattress

Saatva Classic

Build

All foam, 25 cm

Innerspring with dual coils and Euro pillow top

Firmness choice

Medium-firm or firm, flipped at home

Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm

Trial

120 days

365 nights

Warranty

Up to 10 years

Lifetime

Delivery

Free, boxed, self assembly

Free white glove with setup and mattress removal

Who should buy the Koala Mattress: Australian shoppers who want a foam mattress priced from $712 to $1,192 across five sizes, delivered free in a box, with a firmness flip between medium-firm and firm and a 120 day trial. The Koala Mattress scores well on price, with every size from Single to King between $712 and $1,192, and on public sentiment, with 4.8 out of 5 from 2,912 reviews. Materials are a strength, with CertiPUR-US certified foam and a TENCEL Lyocell cover. The score is held back by the 120 day trial, which is shorter than the full year offered by some competitors, and by the warranty ceiling of up to 10 years rather than a lifetime term. The flippable firmness is a genuine construction plus that lifts the materials and construction criterion.

Price at equal size: strong, five sizes published with clear AUD pricing

Trial and returns: adequate, 120 days with a full refund of purchase price

Warranty: solid but capped, up to 10 years

Materials and construction: strong, CertiPUR-US foam, TENCEL Lyocell cover, flippable firmness

Public reviews: strong, 4.8 out of 5 across 2,912 reviews

A useful companion to this page: our Koala Snoozytime review.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Koala Mattress trial?

The trial runs for 120 days. That is long enough to sleep on the mattress through a couple of seasons of weather, though it is shorter than a full year.

Can I change the firmness of the Koala Mattress?

Yes.
